The Windmill, Stalin's five year plans
Background on the five year plans
  • Five year plans were created to over come the fifty year industrial gap between Russia and other countries in ten years.
  • The windmill was created so the animals could have a farm like the humans, and be productive.
  • The five year plans were created by the State Planning Commission, or Goplan
  • The plans for the windmill were created by Napoleon and the other pigs..
  • The state had full control on what, how much, and where products would be produced.
  • There were three five year plans .
  • The windmill was built three times.
  • With the demands millions of workers lived in harsh conditions.
  • The animals lived in harsh conditions, not eating well and not having much spare time for activities.
  • As a result of so many workers going into the city, there was a lack of medical supplies, insufficient housing and schooling, along with low wages.
  • As a result of the animals working constantly on the windmill, there was less food, and the animals were no longer learning.
  • First was 1928-1932.
  • Second was 1933-1937.
  • Third was 1938-1941 (stopped short because of the war).
  • The targets for which the factories were given to obtain were impossible figures.
  • At certain points in time it seemed impossible for the animals to finish the windmill by the time Napoleon wanted it to be finished.
  • First plan- The main emphasis in these factories were coal, oil, iron, steel, and electricity.
  • The first time the animals built the windmill, it was just a regular windmill.
  • Second plan- Still focused on heavy industries, started to focus on railways and chemicals.
  • The second time the windmill was built, it had thicker walls so it would not get knocked down as easily.
  • Third plan- Put emphasis on weapons, production which required the heavy industries.
  • The third time the animals were successful and more then one windmill was built to create maximum profit.
  • Because all of the focus was on industry, a wide spread famine occured during this time period.
  • Because the animals were so focused on finishing the windmill, they spent less time growing crops and had a shortage of food.
